King Cetshwayo top achievers awarded
AT an awards ceremony for King Cetshwayo's top matric achievers, District Mayor Thami Ntuli lauded the efforts of the class of 2021.
The ceremony was held at Empangeni town hall on Friday and included 100 matrics from various schools.
Ntuli said he was privileged and honoured by the determination shown by the citizens to support education.
‘I appreciate the hard work and determination of the 2021 matric class, and wish to thank them for that.
'Over the years, I have seen our communities being transformed before my very eyes,' said Ntuli.
He said all this would not have been achieved without the assistance of parents and teachers.
Giving her remarks, Department of Education acting district director Welile Nzama said gratitude for the learners' performance goes to school management teams, teachers, unions and stakeholders who contributed positively.
‘We couldn’t make it without the support from parents, councillors and traditional leadership,' said Nzama.
In her keynote address, reigning Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane encouraged learners to be their own bosses.
‘Today I challenge you to aspire to become employers as opposed to seeking employment. Dream big, work hard and boldly in pursuit of your dreams,’ said Mswane.
All 100 top achievers were awarded tertiary registration grants of R5 000 each from the municipalities under King Cetshwayo District Municipality (KCDM).
The top three were given corporate gift items, certificates and money to the value of R35 000 in total.
