Generous send-off for top achievers
UMFOLOZI Municipality has set aside R350 000 to assist 77 pupils register at higher education institutions.
This was revealed by municipal manager Khulumokwakhe Gamede at the 2021 Matric Excellence Award ceremony at the uMfolozi community hall on Monday.
‘Firstly, let me congratulate these learners for their achievements,’ said Gamede.
‘The theme for this year's event is: 'It takes a village to raise a child'.
‘Therefore, we thank all parents, teachers, and other stakeholders.’
uMfolozi Mayor Xolani Bhengu said education was a priority.
‘My message to these learners is that we trust you. Please do exactly what you have promised us wherever you go,’ he urged, encouraging them, once graduated, to return home with skills to uplift the local communities.
In his keynote address, King Cetshwayo District (KCDM)
Mayor Thami Ntuli emphasised the importance of true leadership.
‘Pride does not grow true leadership, education alone could improve the standard of living. Education is the cornerstone of development,’ said Ntuli.
Pupils were gifted with a laptop, trophy, certificate, and a voucher as a token of appreciation from the mayor.
Among the best-performing circuits within uMfolozi was the KwaMbonambi circuit with 56.6%, followed by uMhlana with 54.5%, and uMbiya with 48.1%.
