Zululander takes top spot at bodybuilding competition
LOCAL bodybuilders brought home three medals after competing in the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (IFBB) event on Saturday.
The IFBB organises more than 8 000 local, national, regional, continental and world championships each year.
This the second event of the year saw the province’s best rookie bodybuilders and physique competitors showcasing their super bodies on stage.
King Cetshwayo District Municipality was wellrepresented by Lindiwe
Mchunu, William Paxton, Sipho Makhanya and Siyabonga Ntimbane.
Lindiwe from eSikhaleni claimed first position in the Wellness Fitness (1 line-up) category, showing impressive progress in the sport having only joined bodybuilding last year.
She trains at Sabelo
Nxumalo’s Max’s Bodybuilding Team and was competing in her second competition. ‘I joined bodybuilding because of the passion I have for sport and the confidence I have in my appealing body,’ she chuckled.
‘I wanted something new to challenge me, and I searched until I was referred to my coach, Sabelo Nxumalo.
‘We spoke over the phone and, after introducing myself, he welcomed me to his team right then and there.’
In August last year, Lindiwe participated in a provincial competition before getting in shape for the Ironman Novice, where she took the top spot.
She advised other women to start exercising if they, too, wish to enter bodybuilding competitions.
‘Proper training and diet are key in bodybuilding.
I strongly advise women to start taking care of their health, body and to start bodybuilding because why not? It’s doable with passion to the core.’
Lindiwe will next compete at the East Coast Classic bodybuilding competition in Durban on 9 July.
The other two medals went to Sipho Makhanya who won the Junior's U23 under 75kg category and placed second in the Men's Classic Bodybuilding category.
