SOME heroes wear capes, but for Mtuba Christian Academy's top matric achiever, his wear white coats.
The academic prowess of Smangaliso Mncwango, who achieved six distinctions, has made his parents and school proud.
Inspired by the monumental achievements of South African medical pioneers, the 19-yearold sets his sights on a future in medicine.
Smangaliso, with unwavering passion for the intricacies of the human body, aspires to follow in the footsteps of his heroes, especially lauding figures like Chris Barnard, the South African trailblazer behind the first heart transplant.
"I want to save lives," Smangaliso asserts confidently, emphasising his deep-rooted commitment to the medical field.
For him, South Africa stands as fertile ground for medical innovation, and he is eager to contribute to the legacy of novel feats set by those who came before him.
As he prepares to embark on his medical studies, Smangaliso plans to explore various facets of the field before honing in on a speciality.
Reflecting on the challenges faced during his matric year, Smangaliso acknowledges the ever-changing class environment as a hurdle.
However, with the unwavering support of his family and school, he triumphed over the difficulties, he said.
Offering advice to the current class, Smangaliso emphasises the importance of prioritisation, organisation and mental health.
"If you prioritise what is important, are organised and manage your time correctly, you will be able to have the fun you need to have because without it, you will be stressed," he said.
Jubilant tears flowed from Jabulisile Maureen Mncwango, Smangaliso's mother, upon hearing the news of her son's exceptional results.
"I am so excited for him. He is my only child," she expressed emotionally.
MCA's high school principal Nontobeko Mkhwanazi proudly announced the institution's 13-year milestone with a 100% pass rate.
