Determined matriculant crunches the numbers for tertiary dreams

- Gaddafi Zulu

IN the heart of Mpukunyoni, Mtubatuba, Bongiwe Sibani (17), fuelled by a passion for numbers, is on a mission to overcome financial barriers and pursue her dream of becoming a chartered accountant.

Living in a challenging environment with her unemployed mother and younger siblings surviving on a social grant, Bongiwe's academic achievements speak volumes about her resilience.

With results that include 80% in IsiZulu, 82% in English, and impressive scores in key subjects like mathematics (84%), business studies (88%) and economics (81%), the Nkodibe Secondary School matriculant has demonstrated both dedication and proficiency.

"I love accounting; ever since I started studying it, I fell in love with it," shared a soft-spoken Bongiwe, reflecting on her academic journey.

Despite facing pressures both at home and at school, she remained focused, driven by the desire to alleviate her mother's struggles.

Bongiwe's advice to this year's matric students is this: "Know where you are headed, be aware of distractions, face challenges head-on, and always be willing to seek help and extend a helping hand to others."

For Bongiwe, helping her peers with their studies became a coping mechanism that not only supported her fellow students but also reinforced her own understanding of the material.

"Helping others made me realise you lose nothing by doing that," she gently emphasised.

Her accounting teacher, Mrs Manqele passionately appeals to any philanthropic individuals or organisations to extend a helping hand and assist Bongiwe in securing funding for her tertiary education.

Mrs Manqele can be reached on

076 5267586 and Bongiwe can be contacted directly on 061 7625402 for those willing to contribute to the journey of this exemplary A student.

Manqele said Bongiwe's determination and academic prowess make her a deserving candidate for support in realising her dreams.
