New Ford Torneo and Transit coming to SA

FORD has launched the all-new Torneo and Transit buses in South Africa.

As for the people-carrying Torneo, the bus is available in a single, Trend trim, long-wheelbase version with a price tag of R999 200.

It is powered by a 2.0 litre turbo-charged diesel engine that produces a total of 100kw and 360Nm.

The front-wheel-drive bus connects to an eight-speed automatic transmission and has a stop/start to reduce fuel consumption.

Furthermore, it features an AdBlue diesel exhaust fluid system with a 20 litre tank that transforms the nitrogen oxide engine fumes into nitrogen and water, thereby significantly reducing its exhaust emissions.

The smart Ford bus also comes with driving modes for Eco and Tow/Haul, the latter of which allows it to pull a trailer weighing up to 2 500kg.

Items that make the driving experience easier include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, evasive steering assist, forward collision warning, reverse brake assist, driver attention monitoring, ABS, dynamic stability control, electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), emergency brake assist (EBA), a 180-degree camera system, and front and rear parking sensors.

Luxury features include keyless entry and start, a 13-inch Ford Sync 4 touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, and an instrument cluster with a seven-inch customisable digital display.

As for the big Ford panel van, the new Transit retails for R692 200 and at launch is also available only in long-wheelbase form. The van’s 2.0 litre turbo-diesel engine generates 100kW and 360Nm, which is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

Ford has kept the roofline below two metres to improve access to heightrestricted areas, and installed a larger side load door accompanied by a new integrated access step that simplifies loading and unloading of goods.

The Transit Custom subsequently offers³a total load volume of

5.8m , a payload of up to 1,269kg, and a maximum load length of 3,050mm using the smart load-through feature under the passenger seat.
