Vendors duck for safety as bullets fly

- Wellington Makwakwa

STREET vendors who operate businesses close to the eSikhaleni Mall are still shaken after they had to seek cover when bullets flew during a business robbery at the shopping centre last Friday afternoon.

According to police three armed men barged into a clothing shop next to KFC at 5pm and demanded money, but they were soon interrupted by security guards who witnessed the incident.

A shoot-out between the guards and robbers followed and one robber was shot and arrested by eSikhawini police. The other two fled the scene.

The two gunmen escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Apart from the arrested robber, no one else was injured in the incident.

The arrested man is in custody and a manhunt is underway for the other two fugitives.

eSikhawini SAPS spokesperson, Capt Thembinkosi Mkhumane, appealed to the community to come forward with any information, which will lead to the arrest of the criminals.
