Ship-shape donation for Sea Rescue
IT was with much gratitude that Sea Rescue Station 19 at Richards Bay received a whopping R112 495.48 cheque from Natal North Coast Round Table.
The handover by Area Chairman Francois Minnie took place at the NSRI base on Saturday morning during the gathering of the North Coast member clubs.
‘Each Table has their own projects that they support, but at the Area AGM the Natal North Coast Tables voted the NSRI as a project to support during the whole year, and earmarked fund-raising for this most worthy cause,’ said Minnie.
Collecting of the funds went international, with Round Table Austria also chipping in significantly.
‘Round Table Austria and the Natal North Coast Area have had a twinning agreement for more than 10 years,’ explained Minnie.
‘That means that they send a representative to our national AGM in April and we send a representative to their AGM in May. More often than not, both organisations send more than one Tabler to attend each other’s AGM.
‘This is in keeping with one of Round Table’s aims and objectives, namely to further the establishment of peace and goodwill in international relationships and to experience other people’s customs and cultures.’
NSRI Station 19 will be putting the donation towards their 8.5m rescue boat ‘Spirit of Round Table’, for which they will continue raising funds over the next couple of years.
