Dayanca aims for the stars

- Richard Springorum

INTELLIGENT, passionate and determined are three adjectives in the English dictionary that best describe Heuwelland Primary School’s Dayanca Pather.

The grade 6 pupil has topped her grade for the last three years with an average of 90% and above and excelled in Kumon Maths from 2012 to 2017. Dayanca participated in both the English and Afrikaans Olympiads, received silver at the art eisteddfod in 2014 and 84% in 2018, completed her initial grade in piano at Trinity College and is a media centre monitor.

The 12-year-old also picked up the Steenbok award for Land Service and is in the U12B netball team at her school.

Her short term goals are to achieve the maths and science awards at her school, compete in the Breakthrough Junior Challenge and become head girl.

But her long term goals are quite remarkable, aiming to be a NASA engineer.

Dayanca certainly has her head screwed on tightly and can be found drawing or reading in her spare time.
