Giles and Hoosen share the spoils

THE 2018 St Catherine’s School annual prizegivin­g ceremony was dominated by current head girls Sarah Giles and Dux pupil Aaminah Hoosen, who grabbed 13 awards between them.

Sarah, who not only achieved academical­ly this year, but sporting as well, received the following awards:- Heather Brook floating trophy for literature, Mater Dei floating trophy for speech, Sr Ann Thöle floating trophy forlife orientatio­n,

Rhind geography floating trophy (which was shared with Jessica van Huyssteen), Kleber Chemicals floating trophy for physical science, Victoria and Andrea Vlachos floating trophy – presented to the matric with the 2nd highest year mark, Senior Goodfellow­ship floating trophy, Cyril Morillion floating trophy – presented to the most public spirited matric, Sr Jeanne-Marie memorial floating trophy – presented to the pupil who participat­es consistent­ly in all St Catherine’s has to offer in the sporting, cultural, academic and spiritual fields and the Monika Fahn memorial floating trophy – awarded by the Principal.

Hoosen was awarded the book prize

- Die Janse van Rensburg Boekprys vir Deursettin­gsvermoë, Emprint floating trophy for mathematic­s, Beath floating trophy for accounting and Matric Dux floating trophy.

Deputy head girl Wanele Mabaso picked up the Young lady of the year award and Goddards-Löffler floating trophy for business studies. Grade eleven pupil Olwethu Mbhele (Head Girl) and Khanyi Ngobese (Deputy Head Girl) were announced school leaders for 2019.
