Workers issue money demands

- Muzi Zincume

SCORES of Supercare Service Group workers deployed at Mondi in Alton downed tools on Monday, demanding a 100% annual bonuses and provident funds.

They have vowed to intensify their strike action until their demands are met.

The Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union (CEPPWAWU) local Organiser, Sifiso Nkabinde said they have been demanding full annual bonuses since 2016, but the company was only offering them half of that.

‘It is clear that the employer is not willing to meet our demands.

‘Beside annual bonuses we also demand a provident fund, so that if our members leave the job, they can still make ends meet for their families.

‘We will not back off, until the employer addresses our demands.

‘Let me clarify that the striking workers are those working in the production plant. The cleaning staff are working as normal,’ he said.

Attempts to get comment from Supercare Service Group Regional Manager, Kumari Naicker were unsuccessful.
