Spotlight on Mtuba by-election in Ward 12
POLITICAL parties under Mtubatuba Municipality have wasted no time in launching their election campaigns, following the IEC’s declaration of a by-election in Ward 12.
The by-election will be held on 12 December this year, following the passing of Cllr Luke Mkhwanazi of the IFP., who passed away in August after a short illness.
The ANC’s Far North Region Secretary, Sphile Mdaka was quick to declare that his party will work tirelessly to ensure they win the ward.
‘We are preparing to field a candidate who will become a servant of the people and lead service delivery initiatives for the benefit of our communities.
‘Our municipal area is still under-developed. There is need for services such as clean water, electricity, roads and housing, especially RDP housing,’ he said.
IFP Chairperson in Mtubatuba, Velenkosini Gumede said they were taking the by-election in a serious light and will not rush to fill a candidate for the sake of doing so.
‘We will be looking at a candidate who will continue the good work started by late Cllr Mkhwanazi.
‘We have a pool of capable leaders in the IFP who can fill that vacancy. Of particular interest to us is to find someone who will lead the community with integrity.
‘We remain worried about unemployment figures of young people in our municipality. We feel something needs to be done to empower our youth to enable them to start their own businesses,’ he said.
