Desiree grabs gold in Durban

RICHARDS Bay’s golden triathlete Desiree Verwey was up to her normal ‘Superwoman’ standards when competing in the fourth and final leg of the Tinman Series in Durban on Sunday.

She not only won her age group, but also scooped the ladies section in 1 hour, 59 minutes and 2 seconds.

Verwey competed in the Challenge Triathlon section which saw athletes complete a 1km swim, 32km bike ride and 10km run.

The fit and strong athlete clocked 26.50 on the swim, 54.45 on the bike and a blistering 35.12 on the run.

Verwey’s time gave her an overall finish of 16 out of 96 and first out of 19 in the ladies category.
