Entries open for N3TC Drak race

- Richard Springorum

EXCITING news for all paddle junkies is that entries for the annual popular N3TC Drak Challenge have opened and will see the 26th edition start at Castleburn on Saturday, 19 January with a 26 kilometre stage to Sinister Pool, just above Swartberg Road Bridge.

Competitors will then complete the 36km second stage on Sunday, 20 January at Early Mist Farm close to Coleford resort.

With regular summer rainfalls in and around the area, paddlers will keep a close eye on the water levels, as many opt to trip and train on the river during the end-of-year holidays.

Defending champion Andy Birkett, the winner of the last five editions of the race, has confirmed that he will be travelling up from his new home in East London for the race.

Also sure to be on the start line is 11 times world marathon champion Hank McGregor.

The two-day race attracts paddlers from every corner of the country, despite the fact that it generally falls on the first weekend after the school holidays.

Entries can be taken online via the ROAG portal at http://drak.co.za/enter/
