The Empangeni chainsaw scuttle

AN intoxicated chainsaw-wielding tree feller caused a commotion near Five Ways Spar in Empangeni last Friday.

Local resident Chris Whittaker said he initially saw the man lying on his back near the traffic circle, with his chainsaw on full tilt.

Whittaker approached him as he felt that he could pose a hazard to members of the public.

‘He then began chasing me with his chainsaw around the traffic circle. His colleagues tried to intervene, but he chased them as well.

Whittaker pulled out his pepper spray to confront the deranged man.

‘Once I did so and advanced toward him, one of his colleagues approached me and apologised on his behalf.

‘They said they would keep him under control.’

Empangeni Community Policing Forum Chairperson, Zonita Grobbelaar, confirmed they had received the complaint and would address the situation.
