A thrilling po­etry ses­sion in Em­pan­geni

The in­ti­macy of the spo­ken word was on dis­play at the Man­disa and Friends Po­etry Show at Am­ble Inn in Em­pan­geni last Fri­day.

Po­ets such as Minehle Mthembu of Im­bewu, Thube­lihle Mthembu, Mbuthuma of Back to My Roots and Mag­wabe high­lighted their unique qual­i­ties – har­mony, rhythm, depth and emo­tion - through their ex­cep­tional po­ems.

The pur­pose of the event was to cre­ate a plat­form for lo­cal po­ets to share the stage with well known gi­ants in the field.

The po­etry show­down also fea­tured Nathi Gumede, Lethu Nk­wanyana, and mu­si­cal group eSikhaleni Some­thing, which de­liv­ered sharp songs on acous­tic in­stru­ments, while co­me­dian Gqonqa tick­led the funny bones be­tween ses­sions.

Recit­ing her poem on stage is Lungi ‘Ijube­lihle ngom­lomo’ Ma­jola Dur­ban poet, Heavy­weight , in ac­tion 2017 SATMA award-win­ning poet, Mbalenhle ‘Magcwabe’ Mkhize-Mabaso Po­etry trio Ong­waqa Nonkamisa Lo­cal co­me­dian Gqonqa kept the au­di­ence en­ter­tained be­tween ses­sions
