A thrilling poetry session in Empangeni

- Wellington Makwakwa

The intimacy of the spoken word was on display at the Mandisa and Friends Poetry Show at Amble Inn in Empangeni last Friday.

Poets such as Minehle Mthembu of Imbewu, Thubelihle Mthembu, Mbuthuma of Back to My Roots and Magwabe highlighted their unique qualities – harmony, rhythm, depth and emotion - through their exceptional poems.

The purpose of the event was to create a platform for local poets to share the stage with well known giants in the field.

The poetry showdown also featured Nathi Gumede, Lethu Nkwanyana, and musical group eSikhaleni Something, which delivered sharp songs on acoustic instruments, while comedian Gqonqa tickled the funny bones between sessions.
