THE family of a Grade 7 learner at Zicabangele Primary School in the Ntuze Reserve, is in shock following the death of their son, Ayanda Mthethwa (13), after he was hit by a bus while on his way to school on Tuesday.

He was among a group of learners walking along the road approaching the Ntuze bridge when a bus driver allegedly lost control and hit the boy.

Ayanda’s uncle, Mphikiseni Mthethwa, said when they arrived at the scene, they were told that the other learners managed to escape injury.

He described Ayanda as a fine youngster with a bright future.

‘We are very saddened by his untimely passing. We are at the state mortuary preparing for his burial this weekend,’ he said.

The ANCYL Ward 11 leader, Londi Sibiya, blamed the bad state of the road as the cause of the accident.

‘We have previously raised concerns about the bad state of this gravel road, but nothing has been done about it.

‘This is a provincial road linking Chibini and Obanjeni areas. The community will stage another protest until our demands to upgrade this road are met,’ said Biyela.

King Cetshwayo Cluster police spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, said a case of culpable homicide was registered at Mtunzini SAPS.
