Co-op­er­a­tive tourism ini­tia­tive gains ground

A CO-OP­ER­A­TIVE ini­tia­tive to pro­mote the Mang­cengce area un­der the uBuka Tra­di­tional Au­thor­ity as a tourism des­ti­na­tion, is show­ing pos­i­tive signs of bear­ing fruit.

Vuna Okut­shalile Co-op­er­a­tive CEO, Ja­cob Biyela, said for­mer Ntam­banana Mu­nic­i­pal­ity em­ploy­ees in­te­grated into the uMh­lathuze Mu­nic­i­pal­ity fol­low­ing the new de­mar­ca­tion, used the lo­ca­tion for their year-end func­tion last week­end, which served as a good ex­am­ple of what can be achieved.

‘This shows that the ef­forts of the Zu­l­u­land Yacht Club and uMh­lathuze Tourism Or­gan­i­sa­tion will soon cre­ate a ma­jor eco­nomic boost to our peo­ple by cre­at­ing job op­por­tu­ni­ties.

‘Zu­l­u­land Yacht Club is our back­bone as it brings vis­i­tors from var­i­ous coun­tries to this area.

‘It also plays a great role in pro­mot­ing wa­ter sport ac­tiv­i­ties here as we have the Croc­o­dile Dam, which is a strong tourist at­trac­tion,’ Biyela said.

He ex­pressed his grat­i­tude to tra­di­tional lead­ers such as iNkosi Phi­wayinkosi Biyela, who gave them per­mis­sion the go ahead and use the area as a tourist fa­cil­ity.

‘Lo­cal iN­duna Moses Sikhakhane has been in­stru­men­tal in all our pro­cesses.’

Biyela said the fa­cil­ity fur­ther pro­vides op­por­tu­ni­ties for lo­cal tal­ent who en­ter­tain vis­i­tors.
