This, according to the Richards Bay SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority) which could not comment further.
The tragedy occurred when the Richards Bay-based Sharks Board crew members were servicing the shark nets at Newark Beach in high seas and strong winds.
Skipper Richard Gumede and Mandla Gumede were declared deceased on scene and their bodies recovered by Alkantstrand Sport and Recreation officer Shakes Hiraman and the NSRI respectively.
The body of Siyabonga Gabela was recovered some days later after being spotted by a local fisherman.
