Fiery Ruan steers KZN to easy victory

- Richard Springorum

RICHARDS Bay all-rounder Ruan Janse van Rensburg stepped up to the plate and delivered a man of the match performance which steered the KZN Rural Coastal side to a comprehensive 104 run victory over Free State in a RCASA League match played at Addison Park on Saturday.

He remained unbeaten at the crease on 83 and ended with bowling figures of 4/7 in 10 overs, which included six maiden overs.

KZN reached 211/6 in their 50 overs, thanks to contributions from Gareth Bishop (42), Ashley Lombard (23) and Neil Jordan (20 not out).

Lucas Boucher was the pick of the Free State bowlers with figures of 2/32 in 10.

Free State’s run chase never got going, with wickets falling at regular intervals and no solid partnerships being formed.

This resulted in the side being dismissed for 107 in the 36th over.

Number 10 batsman Bisto Setoabo dug in at the back end of the innings and top scored for his side with 20 runs before being caught by Gareth Bishop off the bowling of Jordan.

Jordan ended with figures of 3/31 in 10 and was backed up by Imtiaz Hatiya (2/33 in 10) and Bishop (1/6 in 2) at the other end.

The KZN Rural Coastal side will be away on Saturday when they take on Gauteng in their last league game ahead of the CSA Rural Week next month.
