- Wellington Makwakwa

IN a letter to her mother, a traumatised 12-year-old girl from Mtubatuba has revealed being a sex slave for seven years at the hands of a male relative.

The letter, found in her school bag last week, not only broke the silence but revealed details of her ordeal which over the years happened in their home at Shikishela area in KwaMsane.

The young victim explained her trauma and pain, which apparently started when she was only five years old.

After finding the letter, the matter was reported to the local police station.

According to the police, the victim claimed the ‘brother’ who works in the family’s tuck shop, started raping her when her parents were away in 2010.

‘She put the letter in her bag knowing her mother would check it on weekends.

‘After reading the letter the mother confronted the victim, who admitted everything.

‘She claimed the suspect was like a brother to her and she trusted by her parents but ended up sexual assaulting her,’ said a police statement.

In the letter the victim said the suspect would first cuddle her before taking her to his bed where he repeatedly raped her.

According to reports the victim was often left in the suspect’s care when her parents were away.

The suspect, who has not yet been arrested, has left the area.

The case is being investigated by the Family Violence and Sexual Offences Unit based in KwaMsane.

‘The unit commander has promised to do his utmost best to trace and bring the perpetrator behind bars and to justice,’ said KwaMsane police.
