It’s all things art for Swazi

- Wellington Makwakwa

LOCAL artist Swazi Dlamini can truly testify that an apple definitely doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Whether he is doing paintings, photography or custom-made clothing, this young emerging artist is following in the footsteps of both his parents in every way.

On Friday, 2 March, Swazi will showcase his art in Richards Bay alongside his father and legendary fine artist, Joseph Manana.

He will display his exquisite paintings, photographs as well as his clothes designs under the theme Now Exhale.

‘This is the opportunity for me to showcase the visual side of art for locals,’ he said.

Swazi will also perform his music and poetry - a part of his creative talent he inherited from his mother and well known poet Zonke Cebekhulu of Ugqoko Productions.

This unique platform will also feature fine artists Bheki Khambule and Khehla Mathe of Lubadzi.

His father will also display his work in the hope of raising funds for Swazi’s overseas trip.

‘The aim is to introduce visual arts to the King Cetshwayo community and to make sure we cover all aspects of art. Many people are interested in this form of art, but don’t know where to go for it, ‘said Swazi.

He is a graphic designer with qualifications from Tshwane University of Technology, a model, musician, dancer, poet and philanthropist.

He is also studying music and has many accolades under his belt, including being crowned Mr Tiny Africa and Mr Zululand.
