Walk against gender-based violence
ZULULAND has stepped up to the challenge and will walk in heels in unity against women abuse during the international campaign #ONEVOICE against gender-based violence taking place in Richards Bay on Women’s Day.
A group of women from different cultural backgrounds and with different stories to tell, have joined forces to support the inaugural #OneVoice Walk, an initiative established by former
Mrs Universe 2016 runner-up and businesswoman, Tracey-Ann Buckley Aggett, for the 2017 Mrs Universe event in Durban.
With more than 50 countries participating, the #ONEVOICE movement has now become an international campaign.
This year Tracey-Ann has rallied local women Tracy Moodley, Megan Erasmus Gauld, Adelie Uys and Zakithi Mahlati to come on board and roll out this movement in Zululand.
They say by giving a girl the right shoes she can conquer the world, but in this instance the women taking on the campaign are not looking to conquer the world in heels, but rather walking in them to symbolically take a stand against gender violence.
The event will start at 10.30am and participants will walk from Richards Bay Road Lodge to the Civic Centre. Young girls and women can dress in black and gold and wear high heels as a greater voice for women who suffer violent crimes.
‘Our aim is to create awareness and provide a platform for the voices of those who suffer in silence to be heard. We are also trying to create a space for women to freely come together, interact, network and know they have the support of their fellow community members,’ said Buckley Aggett.
Local companies, businesses, community groups, charities and schools are invited to join and support the walk.
