Poorun brothers pack in the silverware

LETHAL martial arts siblings Aaryan and Rudhra Poorun fought their way to heaps of medals at the 2018 ISKA (Internatio­nal Sports Karate Associatio­n) World Championsh­ips held in Orlando, Florida during the July school holidays.

This was a huge achievemen­t for the brothers, as there were 38 countries and over 4 000 competitor­s at the tournament.

Older brother Aaryan, who competed in the boys 12-13 age group, bagged a second place in the Sport MMA event and received seven medals for his fifth place finishing in Advanced Boys and Girls Creative Form, Advanced Boys and Girls Creative Weapon, Advanced Boys and Girls Traditiona­l Weapon, Advanced Boys and Girls Traditiona­l Form, Advanced Boys Clash Sparring, Advanced Boys Points Sparring and Advanced Boys Continues Sparring.

Rudhra participat­ed in the boys 8-9 age group and received his Presidents Colours for sport martial arts during the tournament, as well as seven medals for the following fifth place finishes - Experience­d Intermedia­te Boys and Girls Traditiona­l Weapons, Experience­d Boys Point Sparring, Intermedia­te Boys Clash Sparring, New Intermedia­te Boys and Girls Traditiona­l Form, New/ Experience Intermedia­te Boys and Girls Creative Weapons, New/Experience­d Intermedia­te Boys and Girls Creative Form and New/ Experience­d Intermedia­te Boys Continuous Sparring.
