TOURISTS and locals will descend on Mtubatuba Rugby Club this weekend for the uMkhanyakude Trade Show.

Organised by Ndandali Events, the show will be held on Saturday and Sunday under the theme, ‘Towards a Sustainable Art and Craft Sector: A Vehicle for Local Economic Development’.

It will focus on the local arts and crafts industry by giving local crafters and visual artists within the district a platform to showcase and sell their products.

The trade show aims to advocate for the preservation of indigenous craft while promoting selfemployment, sustainable jobs and livelihoods.

A number of other activities will also take place during the weekend, including guided day tours and boat cruises in St Lucia, car displays, live music performances, kids and picnic zones, among others.

Local performers doing drama, dance, poetry, comedy, puppetry and acting will also have a platform to showcase their talents.

‘We want to encourage locals to support the show by buying craft products as gifts and souvenirs.

‘And we are also targeting tourists who flock in numbers to St Lucia at this time of the year,’ said Ndandali Events Managing Director, Siqiniseko Gumbi.

Entrance fee for adults is R20, R10 for teens and free for children under the age of 12. Gates will open at 9am.
