Treatment of municipal bins questioned

-

Fosco Finotti

Too late... mine is beyond repair. To be fair though, the dumping systems on the trucks need maintenance.

Report? I know of many who have done just that and still it continues! Maybe they should send an ‘undercover’ person on the trucks to observe first hand how little some of the workers care. Often the bins are left in the road where it causes a hazard for passing vehicles, some are spun away on their wheels and if they fall over no one picks them up.

Fit all refuse trucks with cameras with GPS at back and sides - will reduce the abuse to dustbins.

I was very fortunate to have my bin replaced sometime back after complaining to the municipality, when my refuse bin was badly damaged owing to bad handling by certain of their employees. I had CCTV footage at the time to prove their negligent and destructive actions to back my claim as well as photos of other bins that also lay strewn on the pavement. The matter was escalated to the superintendent who was very efficient, he came to my home to inspect the bin. I received a bin by close of day same day. From what I understood about the feedback received, there was going to be an investigation into the matter involving the driver as well as the employees of the designated route (area) in which the damage took place.
