Lucky escape for ZO editor

- Laurie Smith

ZO Editor Dave Savides found himself on the opposite end of an accident report on Tuesday when he was involved in a four vehicle pile-up.

Dave had been waiting for the traffic lights to change at the South32 intersection on West Central Arterial, as had a bus travelling in the opposite direction.

‘The bus pulled off and was just a few metres from me when it suddenly swerved into my path.

‘A Durban-registered black Golf had tried to cut in past the bus and the driver took evasive action – unfortunately it didn’t avoid me,’ said Dave, whose only injuries were abrasions to his forearms after the airbags deployed.

His vehicle was also connected by a car that had been following close behind, with no serious injuries to anyone involved.

‘Rescue, traffic, SAPS and ambulance services were soon on the scene and once they saw we were all fine the jokes started about how, if there is no news, I create my own!’

My vehicle was the filling in a crash sandwich
