Young local scientists excel at Eskom expo in Johannesbu­rg

THREE Arboretum Primary School learners have won gold medals in their respective categories at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists Internatio­nal Science Fair (ISF) in Johannesbu­rg earlier this month.

During the intense four-day event, more than 500 projects were judged in various categories and divided into junior (Grades 6-9) and senior (Grades

10-12) levels.

K Buitendag said the school was extremely proud and congratula­ted the learners on their outstandin­g achievemen­ts.

‘Our learners Taqwa Sabjee, Ruan Buitendag and Johannes Swanepoel received gold medals, while Yashya Govender, Ayesha Desai and Zander Coetzer achieved silver status.

For his outstandin­g project on ‘future farming’, Sabjee also received a special award from the South African Soil Associatio­n for the best soil science project.
