Aquadene score big in debut

AQUADENE Secondary School stamped their mark on proceeding­s by winning the 2018 Top 32 Schools Soccer Challenge in their debut appearance.

The U18 side, coached by Nkanyiso Ndabandaba, won R10 000 cash and a trophy for their efforts.

KZN’s top 32 schools competed in the knockout tournament over four weeks.

Aquadene picked up a walkover victory in round one, beat John Ross College 3-2 in the second round held at Empangeni High School, and went on to beat South City Christian College 3-0 in round three held in Margate.

These wins ensured a semi-final clash against hosts EHS on Saturday.

Aquadene pulled out all the stops in water-logged and muddy conditions to beat EHS 3-2 to progess to the finals.

The squad came up against Mqhawe High, who beat Esizibeni High 1-0 in their semi-final clash.

The local school’s form continued and they beat Mqhawe 2-1 in a hotly contested final.
