Bad day at the office for the Garage Boys’ fighters

- Richard Springorum

GARAGE Boys fighter Isolda van Aarde is on track for her mixed martial arts debut fight scheduled for Saturday at Uvongo Town Hall. She will come up against Illana van Schalkwyk in a ladies under 66kg fight in the Parabellum Fight League.

Van Aarde just came off a points win over Danielle Vosloo in a 70kg grappling fight held at the Grass Roots Tournament in Durban last weekend.

She was one of eight fighters from Garage Boys to compete in Durban.

Ronald Biyela picked up a points win over Rowan from Roundhouse Club in a 70kg grappling fight, with Piesang van Huizen going down on points to Andrew Caruth in his 70kg grappling bout.

It was a bad day at the office for Buks Strydom and Nkanyiso Madhevu, who both went down in the first round of their grappling fights.

Strydom tapped out to a rear neck choke to hand Bayo Ojewole the win in his 75kg grappling fight, with Madhevu tapping out on an arm triangle to a Newcastle fighter in his 90kg grappling fight.

The woes continued for the Garage Boys Club, with Lesley Mentoor losing in the second round to Johannes Barkhuizen in a 100kg boxing bout and Jean-Claude Smith losing in the first round of his 80kg boxing bout.
