Locked, loaded and ready to fire

‘WE will rock up to make a huge statement and hope for a knockout in the first three rounds.’

These are the confident sentiments of Zululand heavyweight fighter Joshua ‘Red Beast’ Pretorius who will lock horns with Nhlanganipho Gwamamda at the Time Square Arena in Pretoria on Sunday.

All bouts at the tournament will be televised on Kwesé Sports from 12 noon to 8pm.

‘We’ve had a good preparation period leading into this fight and I have now peaked in my fitness, so I am excited to see what happens come Sunday,’ said Pretorius. Joshua told the ZO he focused on light training this week, only doing bag and pad work.

‘We hit the gym once a day for an hour, tightening up certain areas and fixing some flaws to make sure that I deliver on Sunday.’

Josh and his dad Corrie will leave for Pretoria tomorrow (Friday), with the weigh-in scheduled for 12 noon on Saturday.

‘We are happy where

I am at the moment and aim for 104kg on the scale.’

Josh will do a light jog on Saturday before gearing up and

stepping into the ring on Sunday. Exciting news for locals is that there are talks about a boxing competition that will take place in Richards Bay in December, where the Red Beast will be in action on his home turf. Watch this space for details.
