Creative poets ready to recite

- Wellington Makwakwa

The art of the spoken word will be on display when top SA poets recite their creative works at the Mandisa and Friends Poetry Show at Imble Inn in Empangeni on Friday, 2 November. Poets such as Mandisa da Poet, Mbuthuma of Back to My Roots, Minehle Mthembu of Imbewu and Thubelihle Mthembu will set the stage on fire with their new material, highlighting their unique qualities – harmony, rhythm, depth and emotion.

The purpose of the event is to create a platform for local poets to share the stage with well known giants in the field.

‘As poets this is the platform for us to showcase our work as well as learn from top and famous poets.’In our area we don’t have such platforms but now we want people to know poetry is as important as any other art.

‘It can also create opportunities and create income if tackled the right way,’ said event organiser, Mandisa.

The poetry showdown will also feature Nathi Gumede, Lethu Nkwanyana, Magcwabe and Skhaleni, just to name a few.

Musical group, eSikhaleni Something will deliver sharpened songs on acoustic instruments, while comedian Gqonqa is expected to tickle Zululand funny bones between sessions.
