Rain affects crucial play
FOR the second consecutive week, rain caused the cancellation of Saturday’s play in the Zululand Open Singles.
This meant that sectional play had to be played on Sunday with the knock out stages being postponed to Saturday, 24 November at Mtunzini.
Section winners were as follows - Men: Jeff Hunter, Dion Leaity, Billy Kruse, George Stewart, Barry Mutlow, Dareth McIntyre, Vlekkie Visser, Dirk Norval, Mike Bowman, Bobby Smith and Mike Lovell.
Women: Esell Schoeman, Michelle Morgan, Sharon Nicoll, Gloria Garbutt, Anita Scott and Helene de Wet.
Owing to the smaller number of players involved, the senior singles play-offs are to be arranged by the individual players.
I have been informed that the Bill Robarts Memorial Trophy tournament which was due to have been played on the 10/11 November at the Empangeni Country Club has been postponed to some time early in the new year.
The second round of the Toyota twilight bowls played at the Empangeni Bowling Club saw last week’s leaders, Aligators drop 8 places when they went down by 5 shots to Toyota (2) who remain in second place.
The lead has been taken over by Rocky Planets who posted a 12 shot win against Round Table (1).
The session prize, sponsored by Sharon Nicoll, was won by Deon Greyling who handed a 22 shot defeat to TTR Duvenager.
The all important third round, to be played today, Thursday, will see the teams in the top half retain their points and continue their pursuit of the main prize whilst those in the bottom half will start from scratch and proceed to play in the plate event.
