035 Awards to recognise local stars

- Wellington Makwakwa

Individuals making waves across the Zululand region will be recognised during the 2nd annual 035 Awards at Empangeni Civic Centre on Saturday, 1 December.

The community initiative is headed by homegrown dancer, entertainer and founder Jonty Stander of SA’s Got Talent fame with the aim of acknowledging local stars.

‘After the first awards last year, we saw the impact they have in the region and wanted to continue recognising our local talented people.

‘The idea came because I could see lack of recognition for my fellow entertainers who are hustling to get to the top. This region has too much talent which stayed unrecognised, so these awards serve as a platform to showcase that we can compete with the best in the country.

‘For years, regional artists have voiced their dissatisfaction for not having any recognition or platforms to showcase their craft,’ said Jonty.

Since the news of the awards, social media has been buzzing from Zululanders who believe the awards bring positive impact to the region.

The event will also feature local beauties who will be gunning for the Miss 035 beauty title.

The show will include live performances by Jonty Stander, Noid Supremo, Young Scar, Kris Karma, Diba Shortsteiger, Hurricanez and a huge line-up of local artists.

It will also feature a fashion show from various designers such as RudegangSA, RARE, Pure Race, Headline, El Dambie, Gotta be rich, Triple C and many more.

The awards will begin at 2pm.
