Enseleni Reserve benefactors thanked
SUPPORTERS of the Enseleni Nature Reserve were recently thanked for the important part they play in the reserve’s upkeep.
Phumla Zulu, District Conservation Officer in charge of the small reserve, said that she and the handful of staff looking after the reserve are extremely grateful for the assistance received from these local businesses, because without it they will have a tough time doing the maintenance needed.
She added that they have plans to develop a camping site inside the reserve in order to make this hidden jewel more attractive to local nature lovers and to boost visitor numbers, thus securing the reserve’s future.
For those who do not know, the Enseleni Nature Reserve is situated 11km north of Empangeni next to Paul Gouge (Honorary Conservation Officer), Werner Nienaber (Ritchie Auto), Ian Deetlefs (Emprint), Phumla Zulu (District Conservation Officer), Janine Pienaar (RIS Vehicle Hire), Mike Campbell (Bell Equipment), Denis Botha (Honorary Conservation Officer) and Shayne Maines (KLM Plant Hire)
the N2 freeway.
It was proclaimed in 1948 and its 292 hectares consist
of coastal grasslands, coastal forests and swamp forests.
The two trails in the reserve
offer fantastic scenery and the opportunity to spot a variety of birds and animals.
Enseleni Nature Reserve is a popular birding venue because of its African
Finfoot population and regular sightings of Green Coucal.
