Construction sector bursary opportunity

- Gugu Myeni

THE Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) says applications for the Thapelo Madibeng Bursary Scheme will close at the end of January 2019.

Two thousand bursaries will be awarded nationally to learners who want to study in the construction sector.

The bursaries, valued at R80 000 each, will cover costs of tuition fees, books, stationery, residence costs and meals.

They are offered to learners in the fields of study which include civil engineering, property development, quantity surveying and architecture amongst others.

‘The bursary is for both under-graduate and post-graduate candidates.

‘Full time students registered with a public institution of their choice may apply.

‘Learners must obtain a 60% Grade 12 academic achievement with both Mathematics and Physical Science at level 5 or above.

‘No bursaries will be granted to existing students who are not promoted to the next year of study and have failed more than two subjects,’ CETA said.

The bursary scheme is named after Thapelo Madibeng, a Core Business Executive at CETA who died at the end of July this year after suffering from cancer.

At his memorial service, CETA Chairperson Raymond Cele announced that this is to honour his memory, professionalism and contribution to skills development throughout his career.

Five learners of uMfolozi TVET College have already been awarded bursaries.

This was announced during the relaunch of the uMfolozi TVET College skills development centre in eSikhaleni recently.

Application forms for the bursary are available on the CETA website.
