Stop using state funds for electioneering
Around every election, municipalities and government departments immediately shift into fifth gear when it comes to service delivery.
Stalled projects are reignited and things happen swiftly when votes are needed from ordinary citizens.
The problem I have though is the use of state funds or ratepayers’ money to conduct election campaigns.
This is unacceptable and political parties should foot the bill for their own campaigning.
For instance, in last week’s Zululand Observer Weekender (9 November), it is reported that KZN MEC for Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo visited Nongoma and appealed to rural communities to check their health status.
He was accompanied by the MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Themba Mthembu who further urged community members to embark on agricultural projects. Wheelchairs were also donated to some senior citizens.
All these interventions are noteworthy, but can somebody please tell me why MEC Dhlomo is wearing a yellow ‘Vote ANC’ T-shirt with a picture of President Cyril Ramaphosa on it?
Was this an ANC event or a government roadshow?
Are the beneficiaries receiving items they believe are from the ruling party?
There needs to be a clear distinction. We are not fools and do not use our money to campaign for political parties.
Will Dhlomo be taken to task for his conduct or is this now acceptable practice?
I think matters of this nature must be reported to the Public Protector. We as voters and ratepayers are being abused and taken for granted.
Don’t use our money for your cheap politicking. Use your own!
