Zone.
District Mayor
Nonhle Mkhulisi emphasised the importance of such engagements to ensure an integrated and collective collaboration on service delivery.
‘We are ambassadors of our departments and must deliver to our communities. Through us people must be served in a professional manner,’ she said. Mkhulisi said the district’s IDP aims to assist in the planning and coordination of projects.
‘It must inform and influence our budget processes and reflect the planned projects from the various departments. ‘This will also allow us to make all stakeholders accountable relating to the commitments that have been made.’
She said the inclusion and inputs of business is also vital in the development of the district.
‘We want an economically viable district and the input of the corporate sector on how we can grow our economy is important.’ Department of Education’s Chief Town and Regional Planner, Nosipho Moloi, called for greater collaboration between the education sector and local municipalities.
During her presentation she highlighted current projects and new infrastructure plans for education in the district. These include the building of schools in uMhlathuze, uMfolozi, Nkandla and uMlalazi municipalities.
‘The projects are at various stages. Building has already commenced in some areas and others are still at the design stage.’
She said in terms of water and sanitation projects, 195 schools have been identified and budgeted to receive new toilets. ‘This is a national programme of government working towards the eradication of pit toilets, and a number of schools in the district will benefit.’
