Salary poser for Hlabisa

THERE is uncertainty about whether Hlabisa municipal workers will receive their salaries at the end of this month.

This follows last week’s unrest, which saw municipal offices being torched and vandalised by angry residents.

Big5 Hlabisa Mayor, Comfort Khumalo, said he was pushing municipal officials to double their efforts in ensuring that municipal employees receive their salaries.

According to Khumalo last week’s protest became volatile, which prompted him to relieve workers early fearing for their safety.

‘I had given all our workers an unplanned one week leave as the situation got out of hand.

‘We could not risk their lives. We only resumed work on Tuesday.

We are racing against time to meet our deadline to pay our employees on time.

‘I have placed pressure on the Finance Department to work overtime to achieve this.’
