Mpembeni murder cases postponed

- Wellington Makwakwa

THE Mpembeni uncle and nephew charged with several murders of local businessmen, appeared in eSikhawini Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning.

Justice Ngwane (36) first appeared alone at the District Court in Empangeni for the murder of Vusi ‘Gundane’ Dube (38), who was assassinated in his car on 4 February.

He was later joined by his uncle Meshack in the same court for the murder of Ntuthuko Dladla, killed on 13 July last year.

Even though Justice is only charged with three murders and his uncle faces two charges, residents believe they were also involved in the killings of other businessmen in the area since 2017.

The pair was arrested in February and has been in and out of court for bail applications.

Justice has been held in police custody since his arrest, but Meshack was granted R15 000 bail three weeks ago.

Angry Mpembeni residents attended the court proceedings to hear the outcome of the case.

Both cases were postponed to tomorrow (Friday) and Tuesday next week.
