Close call for young woman
THE dangers of venturing even into the shallows during rough sea conditions were vividly illustrated at Alkantstrand on Saturday.
With bathing banned as storms brought in huge waves, a young lady who had waded barely knee deep into the ocean to fill a plastic bottle with sea water, was swept off her feet.
Fortunately, she was not carried out by the rip current adjacent to the dolosse, which surfers regularly use to get to the backline, but was washed against the rocks. She suffered no serious injuries.
Lifeguards were ready to spring to her rescue, but she was able to leave the water unaided - but it could have been a whole lot worse.
