Workshop to promote child trauma awareness

- Conelia Harry

AN intensive two-day child trauma awareness and carer competency workshop will be presented in Richards Bay free of charge next month.

The course, offered by The Abundant Life Centre (TALC) in Veldenvlei (2 Bottlebrush Bend), is specifically designed to develop trauma competent caregivers and takes place on 13 and 14 August from 9am to 3pm.

Caregivers will be taught how to recognise and understand trauma, the impact it has on a child, how to become competent in dealing with the child’s behaviour and helping them work through and deal with it quickly and effectively.

Facilitated by experienced tutor Bev van Rensburg, the detailed course incorporates theory, practical exercises, group work and discussion, PowerPoint presentations and videos.

Community leader and TALC pastor, Ivan Naidoo, said the course is accredited and participants can acquire continuing professional development (CPD) points for participating in the workshop.

‘It is important for individuals who work with youth groups to take advantage of this free opportunity.’

A donation of R100 towards the catering costs is, however, requested.
