Internet connection boost for Macekane

- Jetro Mshengu

RURAL communities, particularly the youth of Somopho, will now have access to the internet, thanks to the generosity of the City of uMhlathuze.

Mayor Mduduzi Mhlongo last week launched a wi-fi network in Macekane Reserve, under the Somopho Traditional Authority.

According to Mhlongo, wi-fi will bring great benefits to the youth of Macekane and Ntambanana who have been struggling to connect with the world through the internet.

‘The municipality remains committed to changing people’s lives for the better, particularly the youth.

‘The wi-fi access is not meant to be used for social media purposes, but education. We expect the youth to also utilise this facility in search of employment opportunities, as well as starting their own businesses.

‘We expect schools around Macekane and surrounding areas to make use of this facility when doing their schoolwork, research and assignments.

‘Twenty-four wi-fi hot spots will be rolled out throughout the city. We all know that life can be complicated these days if you don’t have internet,’ Mhlongo said.
