Overflowing generosity

- Connie Harry

DONATIONS of clothing, blankets, soft toys and even non-perishable food overflowed at the Hang out with Madiba washing lines erected across the city by businesses, community groups, charities and schools.

The initiative, driven by the Zululand Observer newspaper and its charity arm, Do I Care Enough? (DICE), was a resounding success as scores of community members visited the lines from 7.30 to midday at various venues in Richards Bay, Empangeni and Mtunzini to deliver their donations for charity.

This year construction equipment supplier in Richards Bay, Eazi Access, sponsored the equipment to erect the washing lines in Richards Bay and sold boerewors rolls at the site to raise funds for DICE.

While the community pegged their clothing donations on the line opposite the Richards Bay Civic Centre, Rotary Club of Richards Bay arranged for beneficiaries to receive wheelchairs and all the collected items to be transported to Empangeni by their service provider, E.P.X. Courier Services.
