Battle for KZN supremacy
WITH a few friendly games under their belt, Richards Bay FC’s readiness for the forthcoming National First Division season will receive its first proper test this weekend.
The NRB boys will be up against the province’s best as they contest the annual Premier’s Cup competition at the Princess Magogo and King Zwelithini stadiums. Saturday will see Uthungathi up against Amazulu, with the winner taking on Golden Arrows in a semi-final game on Sunday.
Also on Saturday, Richards Bay will face Real Kings, while Royal Eagles oppose Maritzburg United, with the respective winners facing off in Sunday’s second semi-final.
It’s a great opportunity for all the clubs to do some fine tuning and determine their best players ahead of the new PSL and NFD seasons. Richards Bay has lost a substantial number of first choice players from last season, including the likes of Mike Gumede, Sandile Mthethwa, Khulekani Madonodo, Abubakar Mumeni, Thabiso Nkoana and Lionel Saal. But reinforcements have also arrived, with some promising young guns keen to show what they can do.
