Unizulu team sets the pace

The University of Zululand (Unizulu) team is on top of the Weber and Van Rooyen Cup log after round one with a superior points difference over second placed Empangeni.

The student team, coached by Charles Mndaweni, recorded a 2415 win over Richards Bay 3 at Mick Kelly Park on Saturday.

Empangeni also got their campaign off to a winning start, drilling Mtubatuba 33-19 in Mtuba.

Newly crowned Stewart Shield champions Hluhluwe, managed a 28-12 win over eShowe in eShowe on Friday evening.

Teams will follow a one round, round robin format, with the top two sides competing for the Weber Cup and the third and fourth placed teams playing for the Van Rooyen Cup.

Round two fixtures

Tomorrow (Friday) - Richards Bay vs Mtubatuba at Richards Bay Rugby Club at 8pm; Hluhluwe vs Unizulu at Hluhluwe Rugby Club at 8pm.

Saturday - Empangeni vs eShowe at Mick Kelly Park at 3pm.
