Zululand Observer - Weekender

Tribute to bowls stalwart

- Roger Lavoipierre

IT was with great sadness that we received news of the death of Shelagh White, who died last week after a long illness.

Shelagh was born in Germiston in 1952, the second eldest of four girls and a boy.

She moved to Empangeni in the early 1980s and worked alongside her husband, Hugh Pritchard, who was manager of the Royal Hotel.

After his death, she was employed by I and J.

Shortly after her arrival, she joined the Empangeni Bowling Club which she served loyally for the next 35 years as a hard-working member, as well as for a period as president.

It was during this time that she met fellow bowler Ed White, who she married some years later.

Shelagh had a distinguished bowls career, during which she gained both Zululand and district colours together with a number of competition titles.

Shelagh will be sorely missed by her sisters, Margie, Helen and Jeannie, together with her fellow bowlers and the community at large.

A memorial sevice for Shelagh, followed by a wake will be held at the Empangeni Bowling Club tomorrow (Friday) at 2pm.
