Bay couple’s wedding to air on TV show

Sealing their two-year long distance relationship, Zululand couple Bjorn and Joel Cader tied the knot on 15 June with a host of unique memories and special touches - and the bonus of their story being filmed for the South African wedding television show, Our Perfect Wedding.

A request to have the popular Mzansi Magic DStv show air their love story was just one of many special lengths groom Joel went to after his unique proposal live on stage last August with international R&B bands TLC, SWV and Dru Hill

Their wedding will feature on DStv’s Channel 161 this Sunday at 7pm and will showcase the big day and all the details leading up to the occasion.

The couple said the build-up was exciting, and despite a year of planning from engagement to the wedding day, the week of the wedding flew by with so much to tick off the ‘to do’ list.

As the couple are romantics at heart, the wedding day had a number of unique special touches.

‘We have so many family members in heaven who we would have wanted at our wedding, but God had other plans.

‘So, in memory of those, we reserved a seat at the church, a candle and a painted canvas saying:

‘I’m in heaven for your wedding, so what shall I do? I’ll come down to Earth to spend it with you, so save me a seat, just a comfy chair. You may not see me, but I will be there’.

‘When I arrived at the alter there was a large picture of my dad who passed on in 2013, and it was as if he was there, looking at me and smiling,’ said Bjorn.

Another special moment for the Caders was having more than 600 guests present and no fights breaking out at their wedding.

‘Seeing so many coloured people in one area, turning up, partying and not having one fight, was truly a blessing and that saw our wedding last the entire night.

‘Also, it is not a farm wedding if the party does not carry on into the next day, and with both families coming from a farming background, the wedding ended with the traditional Sunday custom of all the guests and family enjoying a traditional feast - from usu, boiled chicken, braai and even umqomboti (Zulu beer),’ said Joel

‘Our hashtag was ‘GraceWedding’ and we had wristbands for our guests. We love concerts and wanted to incorporate the concert concept with licence disc holders for them to stick onto their cars.

‘The reception location and the announcement that the wedding would be filmed for ‘Our Perfect Wedding’ also came as a surprise for our guests.’
