Lutheran church induction of Prof Musa Xulu
THE induction of Prof Musa Xulu as congregational pastor and spiritual leader of the Emmanuel Lutheran Community Church, will be conducted in Empangeni on Sunday.
Rev Lucas Morena, spiritual leader of the Liberating Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Africa and a team of Lutheran clergy, will lead the proceedings at Empangeni Preparatory School from 8am. The Mfanefileborn Xulu, who already has two doctoral degrees under his belt - in ethnomusicology and tourism completed his third doctoral degree in Theology of Worship Ministry at the Christian Leadership University in the United States of America. Xulu’s degree is accompanied by full ministerial training and global ordination, as well as inclusion in the international directory of ordained ministers, supervised by the USA-based Christian Leaders Alliance.
The well known academic has always been part of the Lutheran Church, and in 1977, at only 16 years old, he formed the Ekuthuleni Lutheran Church choir while attending the now defunct Ekuthuleni Lutheran boarding school near Melmoth.
He went on to be inducted as a lay preacher and congregational committee executive member at the Ekhayelihle Lutheran congregation in uMlazi, Durban, in 1994.
He later became congregational chairperson and parish deputy chairperson at the Lutheran church in Mamelodi, Pretoria.
In 2015 he formed the praise and worship choir, Ekwethabeni Lutheran church choir. In February last year the choir became the Emmanuel Lutheran Community Church, which is a registered nonprofit organisation.
In the middle of his third doctoral degree studies at the Christian Leadership University in the United States, the university suggested he also undertake ministry ordination studies.
He was ordained as a senior pastor on 11 January this year.
