- Tamlyn Jolly

THE Pongola farming community is mourning the loss of one of their own following the murder of Koos Botha (65) in what appeared to be a farm attack on Monday night.

He was killed by an unknown number of attackers in his home on the farm, Sunlands.

Botha was found by farm workers in his kitchen at about 7.30am on Tuesday.

His wrists had been tied with a cell phone charger cord and his feet bound with tape.

Although he reportedly had a scratch on one of his arms, the police said there was no obvious cause of death.

According to police, when Botha was found, his kitchen door was wide open, but there was no forced entry.

He lived alone as his wife had passed away two years ago.

Botha’s vehicle was stolen, but later recovered on the N2 near Mkhuze. Three firearms were also taken. ‘This is a huge shock for the family and community of Pongola,’ said Afriforum Pongola chairperson, Alton Vlok.

‘Our deepest condolences and prayers to the family and the whole community of Pongola.’

At the time of going to print, no arrests had been made.
